I am Wozpix-AKA Warren Lee
And my photo blog starts here
It's a little ironic to start a photo blog with a photo NOT taken by me, but there you go. (Photo credit Mags Sheridan)
A little less than 2 years ago, I picked up a camera for the first time in about 30 years.
In those 2 years, I've been published, recognised by Capture Magazine as a top emerging portrait and documentary photographer, sold work, been added to the State Library of NSW collection and been a finalist in the portrait category of the Head On Photo Awards. (Unfortunately that photograph is embargoed for another week so I can't show it to you.)
And I've learnt and observed a hell of a lot.
The purpose of this blog isn't to teach you photography or to provide lists of settings for various circumstances or to talk about gear, but just to share what I've picked up in those 2 years.
Some of it might be relevant to you, some of it might not, but if you're interested in photography I can guarantee you'll find it interesting, and maybe just a little controversial.
The thing is that if I had 2 learnings from those 2 years they are these.
1. Photography is technically MUCH simpler than most people would ever let on, particularly those who are trying to sell you cheat sheets, presets, that "super sharp" lens, most online courses etc; and
2. Photography is artistically MUCH more difficult than you'd ever think possible from the simply act of pointing a camera at something and pressing the button. (Photo credit to a random passer by)
On 1 November 2021, at 6.31am (meta data tells all), and while walking the dog (the meta data didn't tell me that), this was the first photo I ever took in this new era.
Nothing special, right? Particular as 90% of what I do now is black and white and square.
But I did something and that something led to other somethings and who knows where to in the future.
If this inspires anyone to actually pick up a camera, learn some craft and have a crack, it will have been well worth it.
Want to reach out?
If anything here tickles your fancy, you have suggestions or questions, or just want to say hi, reach out.
I don't bite.......... without permission.
